The Social Purity Alliance is designed to promote the practical application of two radical principles—namely, the sacredness of the home, and the duty of men to live and to suffer women to live in purity.

The members of this Alliance (from whom no formal pledge is required) may do true service by endeavouring to establish these principles by every means in their power; by privately using their influence to elevate the moral tone of the society with which they come in contact; by personally, according to their opportunities, helping to bring back into the paths of purity those who have strayed therefrom, whether men or women; and by lending their aid to combined effort for reinstating, in honest industry, those women who have been the victims of profligacy.

Some suggestions for carrying into practical effect these recommendations are given in the following pages, and are in some cases illustrated by personal experience. These pages are designedly of the character of a general appeal to men, but it is hoped that they may be followed by other publications, addressed specially to various classes of readers, such as workmen and employers of labour, soldiers and sailors, the medical profession, students and members of the universities, &c.

It is intended also that the Alliance shall work by means of lectures and meetings, and by organisation of personal charity, in order to assist its members or others in practically carrying out the principles on which the Alliance is based.

The Alliance is open to all, men and women alike, who concur in its aims and objects. Those who desire to inscribe themselves as members may obtain forms for this purpose from the Honorary Secretary, 8 Bedford Row, London, W.C., where also may be had the Address and Reports already issued by the Committee.
